Fifteen volunteers from the city’s Search and Rescue Unit of the Security Department completed advanced rescue training. The training lasted four days, during which the volunteers learned advanced techniques for extracting people trapped under collapsed structures, techniques for locating people trapped under the rubble, how to deal with a site that has destruction, engineering and rescue medicine and more. The volunteers practiced with advanced rescue equipment.

The training was provided by the Home Front Command to better prepare the city’s search and rescue unit for emergency situations. The unit, which has 330 volunteers, almost 50% of them are women, was created in May 2013 with a few volunteers. The unit is fully trained, undergoing training throughout the year with the Department of Security and Emergency Services in coordination with the Home Front Command. The unit's mission is to respond to emergency situations such as building collapses, earthquakes, war, explosion from a gas balloon and more. The unit provides first response and back up for the emergency and rescue services.

Residents who are interested in joining and volunteering for the search and rescue unit should contact the Security Department at 08-9394666 or shmulik@modiin.muni.il
