Last week, the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics released the 2017 statistics for the local authorities. The data covered various areas, such as health, employment, housing, and more.

According to the statistics, the city had 91,300 residents, a 1.5% growth from the previous year. The breakdown by age: most residents (37%) between ages 0 and 17 and next group with 19.6% between the ages of 30 and 44. The percentage of olim in the city between 1990 and 2017 is 10.7% of the population.

In the health sector, an interesting figure is the average life expectancy of 85.9 years, which places the city in third place, after Modiin Illit and Hod Hasharon. The death rate is also the lowest in Israel, with 3.2 people dying out of a thousand residents, for the years 2013-2017. Another health statistic is the fertility rate, which is an average of 2.4 children per family.

The city ranked an 8 on the socioeconomic index, with a high rate of employment, 76.7%. The average monthly salaries for salaried employees in the city are among the highest in the country, with 17,281 shekels for men and 10,396 shekels for women. The number of salaried employees in the city is 40,318 and the number of residents who work freelance is 3,399. In addition, 80.26% of the residents own their homes, with only 17.63% renting. The statistics also show that there are 30,294 private cars in the city.

In education, the city stands out with a high percentage of students earning a teudat bagrut – 89.6% (in 2017) and 86% of 12th grade students met university entrance requirements. In addition, the percentage of 12th grade students entering higher education within eight years stands at an impressive 64.2%.
