In preparation for the upcoming school year, the city is repainting the street markings around the city. The street painting project includes repainting intersections, lane direction markings, stop lines, cross walks, speed bumps, bus stops, drop off spots near elementary schools and handicap parking near public buildings and schools. The work is being done by the Transportation Infrastructure Maintenance Department, as it does every year in July and August. The purpose of the street painting project is to increase safety on city roads and allow the users a way to clearly identify the markings found on the streets. Most of the work is done at night so as not to interfere with the flow of traffic around the city. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the month. In another six months, after the winter, the city plans to paint the streets again.
