The Society for the Protection of Nature in cooperation with the Education Department of Modiin Maccabim Reut, launched the “child-nature-city” competition, as part of the city’s “Nature Week.” The competition, which began last year was very successful with more than a hundred pictures submitted and thousands of residents voting for the winner. This year, the city’s schools are joining the competition, from elementary schools through high schools. The competition is divided to three categories according to age: elementary, middle school and high school.
The competition deals with urban nature photography and aims to strengthen the connection between the children and the nature surrounding them and increase awareness of what is happening around them by increasing their ability to observe, curiosity and wonder. During the month of January, the students will take pictures of urban nature (where nature meets the city) from their point of view and the school will send the selected pictures. Afterward, a committee will select the 30 best pictures that will reach the finals. Those pictures will be on the Iriyah’s website so residents can vote for their favorite, during “nature week” that will take place March 1-10, 2018. The winners will be announced in the middle of March.
