Impressive achievements for the city's robotics teams in the FLL program. So far, the teams from local schools have won 10 trophies. It began two weeks ago in Tel Aviv when teams from Dorot, Avnei Hachoshen, Ironi Bet, Mesuat Neria, Keshet, Ofek and Nitzanim competed in the FLL competition. The team from Mesuat Neria, Ofek and Keshet earned trophies. Students from Ort Ironi Dalet mentor the team at Meshuat Neria and students from Ironi Bet mentor the teams from Ofek and Keshet.

Last week, teams from Alonim, Shivtei Yisrael, the Democratic School, Yachad, Netiv Zevulun, Re’im, AMIT Boys’ High School, AMIT Girls’ High School, Ironi Hey, Cramim and Darchei Yehudah competed in Jerusalem. The teams from Alonim, Shivtei Yisrael, Re’im, Ironi Hey, 2 teams from AMIT Girls and AMIT Boys all earned trophies. The teams from Shivtei Yisrael, 7th grade AMIT Girls, 8th-9th grade AMIT Girls and AMIT Boys “Kippah Bots” are advancing to the national competition.

More teams from the city will be competing in the coming weeks in Jerusalem and Haifa.

This year, there are 30 teams from 27 schools in Modiin Maccabim Reut participating in the FIRST LEGO League robotics competition. The program is meant to encourage fourth through ninth grade students to engage in science and technology. The groups consist of 10 students that learn and work together on a research project and building a robot out LEGO. The topic for this year’s competition is “The human journey in the solar system” and groups have studied related issues (for example, preventing the weakening of bones in the body due to weight loss conditions, or dealing with space debris on the way to the stars).
