More than a thousand fifth- and sixth-grade students from 25 schools in Modiin Maccabim Reut participated in the athletics championship last week in Reut. The competition was organized by the Sports Department at Amutat Sachlavim. The competition, which took place over two days, with students competing in running 60 and 600 meters, high jump, long jump and relay races.
The competition opened with the traditional torch-lighting ceremony followed by a parade including young athletes from all the schools. Immediately after the ceremonies began a busy day of competitions and just like the big ones, most attention went to the shortest race – the 60-meter run. Four students out of 200 made it to the final 60-meter run. The winners were: sixth grade boys – Lior Navat from Avnei Hachosen, sixth grade girls – Neta Pechter from Cramim, fifth grade boys – Yuval Meir from Ofek and fifth grade girls – Avital Rubin from Ofek.
The highlight of the competition was the relay race at the end. The runners showed a high level of skill and speed. The students from Avnei Chen and Ramon won the fifth grade competition and students from Avnei Chen won the sixth grade competition.
At the end of the competition, the teachers handed out medals to the participants and the winners. The sports division of Amutat Sachlavim handed out trophies to the schools that excelled.
