Transportation Update from Deputy Mayor Michael Harlap

By: ModiInfo Staff

The residents of Modiin have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new central train station. Now that it is finally up and running, they wonder why there wasn't better planning.

We asked Deputy Mayor Michael Harlap what the city intends to do about the lack of parking and about a safe walking area for pedestrians to the station.

"The central train station, according to the original plan, is not intended for people to park and take the train. Those who want to leave their cars at the train should be parking at the Patai Modiin station where there are currently 400 parking spaces with plans for an additional 400 spaces. For that reason two stations were built in Modiin.

"Unfortunately for those who need to reach the train by public transportation, we are sorry to report that public transportation is still not running efficiently. We are still putting pressure on the Ministry of Transportation to fix the situation. In the next few weeks the traffic light at the train junction will be functioning and sidewalks will be in place making the walk easier on pedestrians. Presently, the central station is most suitable for commuters to be dropped off."
