The Israel Postal Company opened their new package sorting center in Ligad Center in Modiin. The sorting center was built on approximately18 dunam and is expected to handle more than 100 million packages a year. The Postal Company is investing around 100 million shekels in the center, including property rental and investment in equipment and technology. The sorting center is one of the most advanced in the world and is set up to handle tens of thousands of packages an hour. The center has around 250 employees.
All packages come straight from the airport to the sorting center where they go through a security check and customs inspection. The item is sent to one of 1200 collection points in the country. It is scanned when it reaches the collection point and the recipient gets a sms that they have a package waiting. The process is shorter than it used to be with an average of 48 hours from the time the package arrives at the airport until it reaches the customer.
