Time to start thinking about summer camps for the kids. Animal summer camps for grades 7-9 and preparation for Kitah Aleph.

July 2-13: Animal Summer Camp for Ages 12-14

2-week animal summer camp especially for pre-teens and teens going into 7th, 8th and 9th Grade. The camp has been specifically designed by Animal Therapists and a Speech and Language Therapist, to strengthen the skills-set required for transitioning and adapting to those challenging teenage years. All activities are animal-assisted to create an exciting and dynamic learning environment. The camp will have a unique daily format featuring:

  • Group activities to strengthen social skills and team building strategies
  • Building projects, such as birdhouse/obstacle course for dogs etc.
  • Art projects with a range of materials including paper folding/string art/quilling
  • Exposure to a range of animals (dogs, parrots, hamsters, turtles and more) and learning about their specific care needs, characteristics etc.
  • Direct handling and care of above-mentioned animals, specifically chosen to assist in honing the social and emotional skills required for adolescence.

Animal-assisted activities foster development of responsibility, respect and empathy. Such activities have been proven to motivate, stimulate, and increase learning ability and self-esteem, thereby improving emotional and social difficulties.  In addition, the animals provide a non-judgmental, loving, accepting environment - the optimal conditions for skills acquisition and emotional regulation. This successful interaction with the animal, fosters the carry-over of the same skills-set to be used with their peers.
