Mayor Haim Bibas this week approved the proposal of deputy mayor, Ilan Ben-Saadoun, to expand parking enforcement in all city streets.Last September a new policy was enforced on municipal parking in the center of town and almost all illegal parking stopped.
It has now been decided to enforce illegal parking throughout the entire city and not just the center. The two main problems are parking on sidewalks and thereby interfering with pedestrian traffic. And the other problem area is people parking in handicap spots who do not have parking permits.
The policy will officially go into effect in August and until then warnings will be given. Starting September fines of up to 250 NIS will be given.
Mayor Haim Bibas said at the meeting that the goal of policy is to clean the streets and prevent disruption and risk to pedestrians by illegal parking and parking on sidewalks. Deputy Mayor Ilan Ben-Saadoun said that the city has no intention of using this as a money maker but rather to bring order and safety to the sidewalks of the city.
