Jewish Jocks

As August's Summer heat is sizzling here in Modi'in, Jewish sports stars have been enjoying success at both
the local and international level in various venues.
Local Happenings:
Little League Baseball--Three local youngsters were involved in international competition recently. Results
will be announced in the September edition of ModiInfo.
Running--At least two adults from Modi'in were expected to compete in the Berlin Marathon. Results will
be announced in the September edtion of ModiInfo.
Bowling--The Sunday night Modi'in Bowling League is expected to start its seventh season at the beginning
of September.
Olympic Update:
Two Jewish-American athletes have won medals thusfar in the 2012 London Olympics. Swimmer Jason Lezak
won a silver medal in a relay event. Lezak is 36 years old, and this may be his last Olympics as a competitor.
Aly Raisman, an 18 year old gymnast, won a gold medal as part of a team competition. She does her routine
to the song Hava Nagila, and when awarded their medals, along with the Star Spangled Banner, her teammates
sang Hava Nagila.
As of this writing, Israel's best bet for a medal in London is women's windsurfer Lee Korzits, who was in second
place after her first four out of ten races.
Baseball:
Minor league outfielder Adam Greenberg has taken a hiatus from professional baseball through July so he can
concentrate on getting into top shape to join Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic. He is hoping to sign with
a team for the remainder of the season.
